Tlaloc: Contemporary Mexican Flavour with a Mythical Twist
Tlaloc is a Brighton based Mexican restaurant serving bold, contemporary dishes rooted in tradition and shaped by local, seasonal produce. Named after the Aztec god of rain, the brand strikes a balance between cultural heritage and modern dining. With a vibrant menu and a distinct creative perspective, Tlaloc brings a fresh take on Mexican cuisine to the heart of Brighton.
From Myth to Mascot: Building a Playful Visual Identity
The project began with a logo design that reimagined the Aztec god Tlaloc through a clean, modern lens. This initial mark set the foundation for a flexible identity that later evolved into playful, cartoonish expressions, including a chubby Tlaloc avatar that became a visual symbol of the brand’s more lighthearted side. The creative journey then extended into packaging with a series of Juanchi beer labels, developed in collaboration with Hand Brew Co. Inspired by head chef Danny’s cat, Juanito, the designs captured his cheeky personality through warm character design and soft coastal palettes. Pale blues and sun faded tones were used to evoke the breezy beaches of Mexico and the crisp refreshment of an ice cold lager. Bringing storytelling and visual charm to every sip.
