MD: A Dark and Twisted Journey into Drum & Bass
MD, also known as Mark Dinimal, has been creating Drum & Bass for a significant amount of time, infusing his music with repetitive sounds that resonate at a consistent speed. His work combines gritty, retro elements with a haunting atmosphere that speaks to fans of the genre.
Designing a Logo and Artwork That Reflects MD’s Unique Energy
For the MD logo, I wanted to capture Mark’s unique personality, creating a dark and twisted portrait inspired by classic 90s cartoon characters. The stylised version of Mark evokes a playful yet eerie energy, with distressed, chromatic aberration effects that mimic the look of old VHS tapes—perfectly reflecting the gritty, retro aesthetic that underpins his music.
For the EP artwork, I designed a spooky house setting, where tracks like “Rasputin”, “Manson”, “Lizzy”, and “Marksism” come to life through historical references hidden throughout the design. The characters live together in darkness, adding a sense of mystery and unease. Easter eggs referencing key moments in each figure’s history create a layer of intrigue, while the overall tone mirrors the haunting atmosphere of Mark’s music.
